 Jung believed that everything in the psyche hinges around opposites, in that the unconscious contains all the possibilities of being that are not in our conscious awareness. The goal of individuation for Jung was learning how to integrate these opposite dynamics into a non-dichotomous whole. Many of those in the Kink community embrace this. I think I am on that path as well. I worry less about what people think of me and my choices and as I mature, I learn to give that same grace to others. Someone once said, "It is better to be hated for who you are, than loved for who you or not." Or, as Shakespeare wrote, "to thine own self be true." I encourage people to embrace today. Eat that fucking cookie, drink that fruity cocktail, let a German dominatrix shock your sack while spanking you with a toilet brush. Live while you can and do it with reckless abandon.

The kink world is fraught with people struggling with pains from life. Some have healed or evolved and some still struggle. Whatever it is that draws people to their carnal pleasures, two things can be said. One, Even on the island of misfit toys, there is a camaraderie. It is the same in the Kink community. The second observation is that the people in this world are taking big bites of life and have not become mundane and/or stagnant. Once you are able to reach the understanding that you are the captain of your ship, you can venture into whatever body of water you choose. it becomes liberating, honest and empowering.
